Spotswood girls visit Dunellen with 2nd place in GMC Blue up for grabs

NOTE: This game has been postponed due to Thursday’s winter storm; continue to follow Central Jersey Sports Radio for updates on rescheduling.

The Middlesex Blue Jays are the clear-cut leader in the GMC Blue Division. But right behind them, Spotswood, Dunellen and Metuchen are duking it out.

Not only is it a solid division, but four of the eight teams in it have played at least eight games, It’s little surprise those four teams are the ones in the top half of the GMC Blue standings.

Friday night, Dunellen (6-3, 5-3) will host its Senior Night – with parents now allowed, per Governor Murphy – when Spotswood (4-5, 4-4) comes to town. The Lady Chargers won the first meeting between the teams back on February 3rd, 45-42.

You can hear the game on Central Jersey Sports Radio – powered by Bellamy & Son Paving – with game-time scheduled for 6:00 pm, and pregame at 5:45. Dom Savino and Mike Pavlichko will call all the action from the Faber School in Dunellen, and you can listen by clicking here. After back-to-back 12-15 seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19 that snapped a 12-year string of winning seasons, Dunellen is looking to put together back-to-back above-.500 campaigns.

Spotswood, meanwhile, is looking for its first winning season under third-year head coach vinnie Vizzi, whose team improved from his debut campaign’s 9-18 to 12-15 last year. A win against Dunellen would put them at .500 with three regular season games left on the schedule, and likely two GMC postseason “pod” games.
