Lady Crusaders use 26-0 first-half run to “run” past Manville, 70-36

In a “sign” of the times, Bound Brook celebrated Senior Night on opening night, a trend this year in high school sports with many games getting cancelled due to COVID-19.

Having their state tournament run get cut short by COVID just a win away from a second Group 1 title under head coach Jen Derevjanik, Bound Brook was eager to get back on the court, and it showed.

The No. 6 Crusaders blew past Manville 70-36 Thursday night in the season opener for both teams, heard live on Central Jersey Sports Radio, powered by Bellamy & Son Paving.

Manville’s Angelina Sanchez scored the game’s first points, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead, but Bound Brook scored the next 26 points to go up 26-2, and lead 38-10 by halftime.

Bound Brook had nine different players in the scoring column, including two in double figures.

Senior Arianna McCleod – who averaged 12 points per game last year and needed 120 at the start of the season to reach the 1,000 point mark in her career – poured in 21 in a balanced effort: 11 in the first half, 10 in the second.

Sophomore point guard Casey Miller was right behind her with 20, including a trio of three-pointers.
