They’re a combined 11-0, with star runningbacks, and they can both put up a lot of points.
They will face off Friday night on Central Jersey Sports Radio in the opening round of the playoffs, in the Big Central Game of the Week powered by Bellamy & Son Paving.
No. 1 Woodbridge hosts No. 2 Somerville in a matchup fans have been anticipating throughout the year, as each got closer to running the table. The Barrons are 5-0; the Pioneers are 6-0.
Air-time is 7 pm, with pregame set for 6:40 from Priscoe Field in Woodbridge.
Somerville has a high-octane offense that has scored an average of 41 points per game. Senior runningback Cookie Desiderio has scored 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,213 yards in just six games, averaging 202.2 yards per game.
For the Barrons, Ali Lee Jr. has “only” run for 993 yards and scored “just” 11 touchdowns, but has the ability to score from anywhere on the field, just like Desiderio.
However, Woodbridge has been tougher on defense this season. The Barrons haven’t been scored on in 11 quarters, going back to the final three quarters against Cranford. Woodbridge has shut out three opponents: Colonia, Parsippany Hills and St. Joseph-Metuchen. And all three games have been on the road.
Somerville, meanwhile, has held four opponents to under 16 points, shutting out Warren Hills on the road.
