Their records may be on opposite ends of the spectrum in 2020, and they haven’t met on Turkey Day since 2011, but it’s still fun when rivals Bound Brook and Manville get together.
The two will square off this Friday night in the Big Central Game of the Week powered by Bellamy & Son Paving.
Mike Pavlichko and Dom Savino have the call with pregame at 6:50 pm and kickoff at 7 pm on Central Jersey Sports Radio. Listen for free – no subscription required! – by clicking here or on the Listen Live button on our website.
Manville’s Gorbatuk talks small-school challenges in the Big Central
The Crusaders come into the game at 0-3, but with two losses to larger schools they don’t usually play – Group 2 Delaware Valley and Group 3 Voorhees. Typically, Manville plays an almost entirely Group 1 schedule. The only larger school the Mustangs faced in 2019 was Metuchen, which is a Group 2 school at the smaller end of the spectrum.
Meanwhile, Bound Brook is 3-1, with its only loss a 4-point defeat at Del Val. The Crusaders even beat Voorhees earlier this year in a game heard on Central Jersey Sports Radio 32-8, their first-ever win over a Group 3 school in the playoff era (1974-present).
Bound Brook has won the last ten games in the series, the longest winning streak of either team. Friday will be the 63rd meeting between the schools, with the Crusaders ahead 41-19-2. Manville’s last win came on November 25, 2009, a 34-26 win at Ned Panfile Stadium.
Central Jersey Sports Radio has two more regular season broadcasts scheduled next week: Friday night at 7 with Somerville entertaining Hunterdon Central, and Saturday afternoon at 1 with St. Joseph-Metuchen hosting Woodbridge.
