As Metuchen returns to play following COVID pause, Jensen reflects on stoppages, and Bulldogs’ rebuild

Guy Jensen knew what he was getting into when he took the Metuchen High School football job two years ago. The program was in the high teens in terms of varsity players.

But he wound up more than doubling those numbers, and finished the 2019 season exactly where he left off.

That became more challenging after COVID-19 took hold across the globe, with his team having to endure multiple stoppages as a result, both in the preseason and during the season.

Metuchen played to a 20-7 loss to Spotswood in its opener, but had to take last week off as a pre-emptive after a number of players attended a party.

The Bulldogs are back at it Saturday night when they visit North Plainfield. Jensen spoke with Central Jersey Sports Radio’s Mike Pavlichko this week.
