The Bound Brook football team is smaller than it has been.

About 20 players smaller.

And like much that is different these days, it’s due to COVID-19, but not necessarily because of illness – or worse.

Crusaders’ first-year head coach Dave LePoidevin says some players had to give up playing this year because they live with grandparents or other family members who may be more vulnerable to the coronavirus.

He says others have had to get jobs after school instead of working with teammates and tackling dummies, after their parents were laid off in the economic fallout from the pandemic.

LePoidevin talks about the challenges of a somewhat depleted roster, including a half-dozen starters; click below to listen.
