No. 4 St. Joseph gets by Elizabeth with defense

The 2020 St. Joseph Falcons expressed confidence before the season they could play with the big Group 5 schools in their new division in the Big Central Football Conference.

One down, four to go.

St. Joe’s used defense – getting two safeties in the first half – to get by Elizabeth Saturday, October 3rd at The Brenner Family Field 17-12.

Alterek Little was stopped twice in his own end zone in the second quarter to put the Falcons up 4-0 before they stretched the lead to ten-zip on a 10-yard pass play from QB Matt Stanton to Anthony Roiget. St. Joe’s missed the extra point.

Omari Jones had a 5-yard touchdown run with 8:07 to go in the 3rd before Elizabeth got on the board with the first of two touchdown passes from senior Miguel Encarnacion coming with 10:07 to play.

It was too little, too late for the Minutemen, who scored again with 1:17 to go, but failed to retrieve an onside kick and could not prevent the Falcons from running out the clock, having just one time out remaining.
