The 2019 football season was magical for the Barrons.
An undefeated regular season and wins in the first two rounds of the playoffs brought them to Allendale, New Jersey for the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 title game.
By that time, Woodbridge was one of just eight undefeated teams left in the state, the only one in the GMC, and one of two in the soon-to-be-born Big Central Football Conference (along with Union and Hillside).
And they were a plus-5 in the win column from the year before, when they won just five games and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Even with the NJSIAA eliminating official “state championships” in 2020, the expectations for the Barrons this season are a bit different than a year ago.
