Eighth-seed Spotswood led 3-1 heading into the seventh inning, but for the third straight GMC Tournament game, five-seed St. Joseph-Metuchen won on a walk-off, getting three in the bottom of the seventh – the last on a JP Zayle RBI single – to win 4-3 and advance to the GMC Tournament title game against 11-seed Edison.

Connor Murphy got it done at the plate and on the mound for 11th-seeded Edison, which made its first GMC Tournament final in 24 years with a 3-0 win over 10-seed Middlesex. Murphy had a two-run double in the sixth that gave the Eagles all the runs they’d need, while going the distance and allowing just two hits to get the victory.

Starter Will Buchan threw five shutout innings of one-hit ball, and drove in the only run eighth-seed Spotswood needed in the top of the first, en route to a 4-0 win over 16-seed South River in the Jim Muldowney GMC Championship Tournament quarterfinals, earning the Chargers’ their first trip to the semis since 2018.

Middlesex scored three runs each in the first two innings, then got four more in the sixth inning for a 10-0, walk-off, mercy rule win over visiting Sayreville in GMC White Division action Tuesday afternoon.  Junior Chris Kozak threw six scoreless innings, striking out seven, and driving in three with a bases-clearing triple in the sixth.
